ITF

ITF - 3 syllables lead to success.

The founding of the ITF dates back to 1966. Here, in South Korea's Seoul, under the leadership of General Choi Hong-hi, the International Taekwon-Do Federation was established. Tae is the foot technique, Kwon the hand technique and Do is the way or the art. These three syllables form the backbone for the increasingly popular sport and are held together under the umbrella of the ITF. The main objective was and still is to spread Taekwon-Do as a Korean martial art in the world. The tasks are very different and range from the coordination and certification of competitions to the certification of Dan-carriers. In Germany, the ITF is represented by the International Taekwon-Do Federation Germany e.V. (ITF-D). Many appreciate Taekwon-Do not only as pure martial arts, but especially through the various elements of gymnastics and philosophical approaches. Self-discipline, overshadowing one's own ego and finding inner peace, are among the key ingredients in Taekwon-Do and are challenged and promoted by the ITF.

Of numbers, symbols, and ancient traditions.

If you hear the number 24, what are you thinking of? Christmas? 24 hours? The Taekwon-Do athletes associate with the 24 the 24 forms. These form an important part of the training and have been written down by General Choi Hong-Hi, founder of the ITF, in the Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do in 15 volumes. That the highest master degree in Taekwondo ends with 9, is also not chosen by chance. Rather, the 9 is the result of 3x3 and the 3 is in East Asia for luck. The ITF's rules and certifications seek to address all of these peculiarities in the history of Taekwon-Do, revealing old traditions in a new guise.
