Georg F. Brückner, himself an experienced martial artist and later founder of our successful TOP TEN brand, invented the first “soft” boxing gloves in 1987. In this way, Brückner prevented the imminent exclusion of amateur boxing from the Olympic Games and made martial arts “socially acceptable” again.
Both opponents wear 10 oz genuine leather boxing gloves to make performance comparable to amateur boxing. The weight is also defined in the regulations of the IBA and includes athletes from light flyweight to light welterweight. For competitions, the color of your 10-ounce gloves is also mandatory. If you stay within the competition regulations of WAKO Germany, there are no color restrictions. In addition to a striking surface made of genuine leather, your 10-ounce boxing gloves must have a WAKO Germany label.
But the fist protectors with 10 ounces are also approved for kickboxing internationally. In this case, there is no requirement for a glove cover, but you are limited in the competition colors, red and blue.
